Lockdown | From an Indian child's perspective

The Prime Minister of India, on March 23rd, announced a 21-day Lockdown (which has been extended multiple times, 4 till now, I think) in which nobody, except those providing essential services, can go out of their houses. So, these days I don't go out to play with my friends, our maid has stopped coming, so now, one day I do sweeping and my mother or sister or father does mopping, and the next day vice versa. The Lockdown has taught me many new things that I would not have learnt otherwise: sweeping and mopping, making dosa, making paratha, stitching, washing my own clothes by hand, and many other small things. I still hate Lockdown, as I cannot go to play, but I have found an alternative for exercising : HIIT(High - Intensity Interval Training : A form of exercise) & Yoga. One day, when I was super bored of not being able to exercise, I searched youtube and found really good HIIT & Yoga videos that I still do till now.

This was written by me on 6th April 2020. I have made some changes and additions to the post and posted it after 5 months.

During the Lockdown, my family moved from West Bengal to Delhi, because my father, who is in the India Armed Forces, got posted in Delhi. We travelled during Lockdown. I will post another blog post about my experience of travelling in Lockdown very soon. It was a three-day journey by car.

After reaching Delhi, we (my family) were quarantined for 14 days in one room. It was very hard to do yoga or HIIT there, as the room was very cramped (clearly, the room was not meant for 5 people to do yoga or HIIT at one time). We used to keep banging into each other and falling.

After 14 days, we finally got to move to our house, which is a 2 BHK.  From there, we (me and my 2 sisters) used to go to the nearby badminton court and play with about 4 more kids. Seeing this, more kids came every week. After a month or so, we were a group of 20 kids. We all got kicked out of the badminton court because we were a huge group.

Then, we(only some of us) went to the basketball court. We made a new record this time. We got kicked out in one day. Next, we went to the big ground. New record again. We got kicked out the same day. So we finally accepted defeat and went home. For many days from then, we did not go out to play. A few days later, we started playing directly in front of the building. From then, for about a month, we've been playing there. Playing options are very limited here and we try to maintain social distancing as much as possible.
